Head coach of Sunshine Stars of Akure, Duke Udi, has declared his readiness to resign as the club's handler if nation's football referees continue to mar or discourage free flowing of football artistry in the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL.
The coach, who believed that the Akure based football club, which is placed seventeenth on the league's log with thirty points, will survive relegation, said the team's former handler, Austin Eguavoen left the squad due to bad officiating.
''If this is the way football is being played, then somebody like me, a
young coach, will resign. If an experienced coach, Austin Eguavoen,
could resign because of bad officiating, then, i should resign, says
Udi.
Udi's whose annoyance was as a result of manner at which the centre referees assigned for the MatchDay twenty- six, between his club, Sunshine Stars and MFM FC, a league match played yesterday at the Agege Stadium, Agege, said officiating officials should pave the way for teams in the league to acquire undue point at the expense of a well prepared squad.
" Why didn't they beat us if they are better that us'' We got two penalties.I am not complaining about the penalty but what am saying ids that football game should be blown free and fair.''They used that penalty to distract us. The game was 1- 0 and they gave out penalty. This match, has been planned already when they got the second goal, they now gave us the penalty to favour us.
According to him, the penalty awarded to his team, was a compensate for the referee's misdeed, after failing to give two deserved spot-kicks to his squad, stressing that free and fair officiating would go a long way to improve the standard of Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL.
He said it was disheartening that having put in enough effort in ensuring success in a league match, a football referee thwarted the coach's technical input in favour of other team, thus, affecting the team's zeal to achieve its set objectives in the league.
While comparing the NPFL to Spanish La Liga, Udi, said it was not possible for a low profile club to beat top rated teams in the NPFL as such a practice is very possible in the Spanish league where some teams at times defeat FC Barcelona.
Inspite of the two- one defeat, Udi, is optimistic that Sunshine Stars of Akure would not be relegated as the team's football players and coaching crew have resolved to continue working hard to stay put in the league.
