First Bank F.C Wins Lagos Federation Cup

It was a jubilation time for First Bank Football Club of Lagos as the Lagos based football team was declared the winner of the Lagos Federation Cup after beating Eko United Football Club of Lagos.

The team's officials and supporters clebrated their victory in grand style when they defeated Eko United five goals to four in a the final of Lagos Federation Cup after the match ended One goal apiece in duration time.

Leke James drew the first blood for First Bank F.C in the fifteen minutes of first half as George Ifeanyi equalised in the fiftieth minutes in the second half to make the match One all draw in duration time.

First Bank F.C would have wrap up the match in the second half of the extra time but Egesi Emmanuel wasted the goal a glaring goal chance.

In the course of penalty shoot out, First Bank F.C Captain, Francis Edem, Egesi Emmanuel,Ibeh Chigozie and Akinbiyi Samuel all scored their kicks while Okonkwo Nonzo was among the Eko United players that scored their kicks.

The Chief Coach of First Bank F.C, Gabriel Monday, who was happy over the feat, thanked God for giving his side the victory against Eko United mking it twice he has qualified the team for the National F.A now named Federation Cup.

Monday, said Eko United was a very strong side to meet his team in the final, stressing that First Bank F.C were compelled to pay for their inability to convert their missing scoring chances, a move which Eko United took advantage of to end the match one goal apiece.

He appealed to the Lagos State Football Association,LSFA, and the club's management to give the club all neccessary assistance to scale through the preliminary round, stressing that the one of the staff of LSFA were present at match venue when the squad qualified for 2006 edition of the F.A Cup.

The Coach who claimed that the club was a very good side that could stand the test of time in the National Federation Cup, said it was impossible to recruit new players as they would make do of the players registered for the Lagos Federation Cup.

The Team's Captain, Francis Edem, who scored the first penalty kick, who promised the team that he would win the Bankers Cup and the Lagos Federation, thanked God for crowning the team's hard work, adding that they train hard to win the tournament.

The club's goalkeeper, Sheriff Salami, who believed that the team's commitment to the tournament was responsible for their victory, explained that the victory would spur them to prepare hard for the National Fedration Cup.

Salami who was the hero of the match for saving two penalties, said he plans to grab offer from Dolphins F.C, Kwara United,Sunshine F.C and O.U.K F.C.

The goalkeeper, had played for Flaming Mauri F.C, Trinity F.C and Ebeide F.C before joining First Bank F.C.
