Lagos To Host International Youth Cup.

The Local Organising Committee of Lagos International Youth Cup has confirmed three teams to participate in the youth soccer tournament billed for the Teslim BalogunStadium, in August, 2010.

Its Chairman, Godson Uti, who revealed this in an interview with Sportsweight.blogspot.com, said the youth teams of Supersports of South Africa, Valencia of Spain, a Lagos selected team have signified their interest to feature in the tournament.

Uti, said the fourth team would soon be confirmed when the Committee has signed necessary documents with the football club from England as he assured that the tournament would staged according to FIFA standard.

He said the Committee would be guided by the experience of last concluded FIFA Under seventeen world cup which Lagos State was one of the venues accreditted for the soccer mundial.

According to the competition which was earlier fixed for last year was postponed till this year as he assured that all necessary arrangements ahve been concluded to stage a hitch free tournament to boost the culture and tourism in the state.

While speaking on the calibre of players to be invited for Lagos selected team, Taiwo Affinih, who is the Chairman of Lagos State Football association, said the Committee would rely on the state data base to invite young football players to camp as the bulk of the players would be invited from the last Lagos State GTBank Principals Cup.

Affinih, said the Association's affiliated coaches have been saddled with the responsibility to screen the players in readiness for the International Youth Soccer Cup.

On Sponsorship, the Head of Marketing Committee, Emmanuel Ibru, said the committee has sent letters to different corporate bodies and private spirited individuals to support the state to organise a beffiting competition.


According to the Head of Protocol and Ceremonial Committee, Tayo Popoola, the teams would be exposed to the tourism centres in the state and also showcase the state culture to the admiration of the young players from Europe.

Popoola, assured that the players would be giving a world class reception right from the Airport as they would be lodged in one of the five star hotel while there would cultural display during the opening and closing ceremonies.
