The head coach of Lagos State Badminton Team, Taiwo Akande, has expressed satisfaction over the performance of Lagos Under 15 and Under 18 teams to the just concluded Ibadan East Local Government Chairman Badminton tournament for Zone 1.
Lagos State won Gold Medals in the Under 15 male event as well as the Under 18 female Singles to top the medal table.
The veteran badminton coach stated that the team made the state proud despite coming to the tournament with the smallest contingents, adding that the performance of the
young Badminton players showed that they are the future stars of Lagos State in Badminton.
The team's assistant coach Ben Orkpo, informed sportsweight.blogspot.com that Anu Opeyori, Kafayat Ibiyeye are the future of the game, adding that they young Badminton players need the support of the State's Sports Council to excel in the sport.
While speaking on the players feat, the chairman of the State Sports Council, Agboola Dabiri, praised the team for writing the name of the state in Gold at the tournament,
stressing that the victory is an indication that the state remains the centre point of sports in the country.
Dabiri revealed that the state will not join the bandwagon of winning out all cost by going after ready athletes but instead continue to produce truly young athletes for the
state and Nigeria’s benefits.
He charged them to remain focus and they should be careful of some states coaches who would want to poach them to compete for them at the next Nnational Sports Festival in Rivers State.
