Nigeria's ace female table tennis player, Offiong Edem, is optimistic that Nigerian team to this year's African Club Championship in Morocco would lift the trophy following the team's outstanding performace in the tiurney.
According to her, the team which is made up of Offiong Edem, Cecilia Otu and Janet Friday beat the Moroccocan squad by three straight as they repeat similar feat against while they defeated in their third group outing by three set to one to scale through to the semi final,stressing that Cecilia Otu lost her first game while she outshine Moroccocan toughest ping ponger by three set to one.
Edem, who is ranked number three hundred and seven in the world in the ITTF latest rankings, told sportsweight.blogspot.com that they are in good spirit and ready to outplay their opponets because they are being motivated by the Vice Chairman of Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, Honourable Orok Otuk Duke and their coach, Richard Edem, who ensure that they are well focussed to lift the trophy.
She said the Nigerian team had a better chance to win the Semi final clash since the toughest Chinese born Congo Brazaville player, Han Xing, is not competing in the event.
She commended the Cross River State Government for making it possible for them to feature in the competition because lack of sponsors to feature in international events has been the bane of table tennis development as the Egpytians are better ranked by ITTF and ATTF because they play regular international ping pong events which according to her, exposed their payers to top flight tournaments and ability to acquire more points.
She said Nigerian table tennis players were better but lack of regular tournaments and sponsors had deprieved the ping pongers of gaining international recognition.
