Nigerian Young Golfers To Feature In U.S Kids World Championship As U.S Denies Manchang Visa
|
Nigerians finest and youngest golfers Gerogia Oboh,Jordan Thompson and Samuel Manchang who have qualified to play at the United States Kids World Championships.
They qualified after competiting at the Kids Golf International African championships which took place at the IBB golf and Country Club in April 2012 and at the U.S Kids European Championships in Gullane Scotland in June 2012.
Unfortunately, Samuel Manchang from Rayfield Golf Club, Plateau State will not be able to attend the World Championships in North Carolina this month as the earliest interview date he could get for an American visa is January 2013.
"It is ridiculous". We obtained British visas for 12 golfers in June within 4 weeks of applying. At this rate, we would never be able to play in the U.S as we don't know who will qualify or not a year in advance. Competitions are in April and June while the World Championships are held in July of the same year.
"We technically will only ever have about 6 weeks to prepare. The U.S visa process has to be reviewed or a separate process for expedited visas such as this must be put in place and even if it means to pay more, then that is better."
All efforts to contact the U.S Consular and expedite his interview date failed.
Commenting on the development, the President of the Kids Golf International Prince Kehinde Thompson said he is gutted by the process.
To this end, the delegation to United States led by the Lady Captain of IBB Golf Club Mrs. Anne Addeh will have to make do with Georgia Oboh and Jordan Thompson as the only Nigerian delegation to the event.
They are already at the venue and will be competiting over 3 days at the world class Pinehurst Golf Resort in North Carolina.
