Lagos State Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Wahid Enitan Oshodi, has commended the Lagos State Taekwondo Association for staging the second edition of EKO International Taekwondo Association Championship which came to an end on Saturday at the Sir Molade Okoya Thomas Indoor sportshall.
Oshodi, who noted that the championship which featured athletes from Ghana, Togo, Cote D'Ivoire, Mali and Republic Niger as well as Nigerian Taewondoists, said the competition was an avenue for the association to assess their wards in readiness for the national and international competitions such as the Olympic and Commonthwealth Games.
The Sports Cmmissioner, who assured that the association would establish a lasting relationship with the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation under the reign of George Ashiru in a bid to keep their athletes in a vantage position, said the quarterly monthly competition approved by Govermor Babatunde Raji Fashola would soon commence to further give the association an opportunity to train athletes to win laurels.
Oshodi, explained that the Ministry through the Lagos State Sports Council, LSSC,would soon start an holiday camping programme for its athletes, stressing that the programme was geared at discovering athletes who would be nurtured to stardom through their various sporting activities.
