All necessary arrangements have been concluded for the year’s edition of Apapa/Ajegunle Mock Nations Cup billed for this Sunday at the Navy playground, Ajegunle, as Tanzania and Sierra Leone are to play in final.
Tournament’s coordinator, Henry Nwosu, said the oldest grassroot football competition in Lagos State had produced great Nigerian football players like Samsom Siasia, Tarila Okoronwata, Gabriel Okolosi, Ifeanyi Udeze, Sunday Oliseh and it has also added value to the growth of grassroot football.
Nwosu who thanked Governor Babatunde Fashola for empowering the youths in the state through Sports, said the competition which featured thirty-two clubs was an initiative of Lagos state government to support grassroot football in Ajegunle and its environs.
The former Nigeria international, said this year’s edition would throw up football talents to be exploited as the competition has paved the way for some clubs featuring in the Nigeria Professional Football league to select football payers, thus popularizing the competition with the influx of football scouts at match venues.
According to him, the prize money has been increased to two million naira which is to be shared among the best four team.
