As Street Soccer Kick-Off This Weekend

The third edition of Lagos MTN Street Soccer Champions will either kick off next Saturday or next two SaturdaY.

The organisers of the Five - A - Side football tournaemnt have warned participating teams to submit their registration forms today or forget about the event.

The Executive Secretary of the management committee of the championship, Yomi Oluwasami, over 500 streets have so far formalised their registration forms while about 400 streets that had picked the forms for the championship are yet to complete their registration.

The Secretary of the Lagos State Football Association, said they are expecting a target of One thousand and eight hundred streets to feature in the competition with each chirmaen of the fifty seven local governmet and LCDA obtaining at least twenty forms for their wards.

While praising some local government chairmen for identifying with the project set-up by the Babatunde Raji Fashola to empower the youth, the chairman of the committee,Tajudeen Oladeji, expressed disappointment in some local governmet chairmen who are yet to identify with the project.

He said while some of the chairmen bought more than the 20 forms for streets in their locality, others did not even respond to the project.

According to Oladeji, some of the local government and LCDA chairmen ignored all efforts to create an opportunity to empower the youth in the various constituency.

He noted that apart from the players, young men are also gainfully engaged by becoming referees and table officials for the championship.

The winner of the tournament will go home with five million naira, the second best team will get three million naira as the third place team will settle for two million just as the fourth team will grab One million naira.
