The newly appointed Minister for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Ibrahim Issa Bio, has assured that he would give adequate attention to other sports apart from Football.
Bio made this statement yesterday at the Annaul General Meeting of Confederation of African Tennis as he declared open the 33rd edition of theAfrican Junior Tennis Championship.
The Minister who would begin his official duty today said his administration would promote Swimming because the country is blessed with raw talents from Niger- Delta area who are well endowed with special skills to perform better with exposure to modern training.
While seaking with Sportsweight.blogspot.com, the Minister who doubles as the Chairman of National Sports Commission, said he would engage corporate bodies and public spirited individual to raise funds to improve the standard of sports in Nigeria.
On the Super Eagles, Bio said he would come up with a strategy in the next two weeks to enahnce the performance of the team at the first ever FIFA World Cup on an African tagged South Africa 2010.
He said plans are on to meet with the technical adviser of the team, Lars Lagerback, in an effort to discuss the challenges facing the team, adding that Super Eagles have the quality players to make Nigeria proud at the event.
