The third edition of the MTN Lagos Street Soccer Championship kicked off over the weekend as all the Local Government and Local Council Areas in the State in were engaged with the Five - A - Side football competition.

The competition which was officially declared opened recently at the Campos Mini Stadium, Lagos Island, attracted over five hundred streets in the state.

At the Agidingbi Primary School Playground, Unity 2 Street and Railway line of Ikeja Local Government were not allowed to play their matches based on their failure to present their players licenses to the match officials.

The competition's rules and regulations, says that all the registered streets must present their players licenses to the match officials before featuring in the tournament as the trend is geared at eliminating the influx of mercenaries.

As a result of this, only the match between Pepple Street of Ikeja Local Government and Aboaba of Ojodu Local Council Development Area was played as Pepple Street tops group A with three points after beating Aboaba Street by a lone goal.

On the fate of Unity 2 Street and Railway line in the tournament, the match Commissioner, AbdulFatai Adeshina Ishola, said it was the duty of the Main Organising Committee to resolve and confirm whether the two Streets properly registered for the competition, stressing that the Committee might find a soft landing for the teams if the fault is from the Secretariat of MTN Lagos Street Soccer Championship.

In group B, Ipodo Street tops the group with Eight points after beating Ajao Street by a lone goal and Ajayi Street by four goals to nothing as the street played three all draw against Aromire Street.

Aromire Street scaled through to the next round with six points from three matches.
In yesterday's match, Fadahunsi Street of Ojodu LCDA has to thread on rough path to scale through as the team managed to move to the next round on goals difference.

Fadahunsi Street and Bakare Street of Ojodu LCDA had 11 points apiece but Fadahunsi Street was able to top the group having acquired plus ten while Bakare Street had plus seven.

Meanwhile, the need for the Main Organising Committee of the MTN Lagos Street Soccer Championship to enlighten all the participating teams on the competition's rules and regulations becomes imperative following an incident that occured at the Agidingbi Primary School, one of the centres for the competition.

It was eminent that an official of Sunday Adigun Street was a novice to the rules of the Five- A- Side football competition as he distrupted the flow of match eight when his Street was pitched with Fadahunsi Street.

The Sunday Adigun officials who was annoyed over the manner at which his side was being punished by Fadahunsi Street encroached on the field kicking the football placed on a penalty spot off the field of play as he felt that the referees in charge of the match, Faton Olabode and Muritala Kehinde Alade were in support of Fadahunsi Street.

Sunday Adigun committed more fouls after the initial four technical fouls in the second half which resulted into accumulation of penalties awarded to Fadahunsi Street but the Sunday Adigun felt that Fadahunsi Street was being favoured to win the match.

His action paved the way for his team to boycott the match with couples of minutes remaining to close the match as the Sunday Adigun official also embarrassed the match officials as the officials from Ojodu LCounal Development Areas has to appeal to the Adigun Street to return to the field of play but their plea went on deaf hear.

The action was absolutely a reflection of inability of the participating teams to understand the nitty-gritty of the rules and regulations of the tournament.
