Abalti George Street , Surulere at the weekend qualified for the knockout stage of the ongoing MTN-Lagos Street Soccer Champions after topping its group at the Otto Awori centre of the championship.
The lads from Surulere topped the group with 10 points from four matches, having won three matches and drew one to beat their closest opponents, Shino Street from Lagos Island East to the second position with just two points.
Speaking at the end of the matches, the team manager of Alepe Street whose team came third , Augustine Ukam, was impressed with the standard of play put up by the teams despite the heavy down pour that delayed the early commencement of the matches as scheduled.
He also expressed appreciation to MTN and the Lagos State government for providing an avenue for the youths in the state to improve on their football.
Okepopo Street goalkeeper,Riliwan Adekunle, whose street failed to qualify for next round,blamed his attackers for the team’s flop.
Adekunle, who made many saves for his side, said they would had done better if his attackers had taken advantage of the numerous goal begging opportunities that came their way they would have done better in the competition.
