The immediate past President Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF) and former member Nigeria Football Association, Leke Olaiya, escaped death when the a tanker rammed into the vehicle he was travelling with along Abuja –Lokoja road last Monday.
The crash occurred near bulletin construction yard ,Abuja –Lokoja road when a tanker overtook at sharp bend and rammed into the Peugeot 505 in which Olaiya and four others were travelling in.
Four people died including the driver but the former NSSF boss escaped narrowly as he is currently admitted at the National Hospital, Abuja.
Olaiya who was travelling for a meeting the new executive officers of the NSSF said through his aids thanked God for sparing his life, saying if not God he would have been dead by because he sat beside the driver and the man died immediately.
With this development, the maiden edition of the West Africa School Sports Games earlier scheduled to hold as from 2nd -8th May 2010 at the MKO
Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta may be postponed.
Students from West African Countries are expected to participate in the games aimed at fostering friendship and unity among the neighbouring countries and also to develop the sporting potentials of the youth of these countries.
