The President of Nigeria Football Federation, Aminu Maigari has praised organizers of AIT Football Awards.
The NFF President said the organisers deserve everyone's praise over the gesture of an annual event that recognizes excellence in of Nigerian footballers and the hard work in organising the event.
Maigari led a delegation of the Nigeria Football Federation that included two Members of the Executive Committee, Barrister Chris Green and Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf, Acting General Secretary Musa Amadu, special assistant to the NFF President, Ibrahim Musa, chief media officer Ademola Olajire and chief sports officer Umar Kontagora.
Maigari, said the event was worthy of appreciation for staging the second edition of the award, stressing that people must learn to appreciate the exploits of Nigerian sportsmen and women through the institution of award programmes.
He commended the panel for thorough in their choice of football players who won awards.
Super Eagles’ goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama won the Footballer of the Year award, ahead of last year’s winner Osaze Odemwingie and midfielder Kalu Uche. All three were part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2010 African Cup of Nations and 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Perpetua Nkwocha of the Super Falcons won the Woman Football of the Year award, with NFF Executive Committee Member Felix Anyansi-Agwu taking the Administrator of the Year plaque.
NFF’s partners Guinness Nigeria PLC and TomTom (Cadbury) won the Football Brand of the Year and National Team of the Year diadems respectively.
Top scorer in the Shell Cup competition, Kenneth Kumbur was named Young Player of the Year, with Flamengoes’ Loveth Ayila taking the female title.
Super Falcons won National Team of the Year, Enyimba was named Premier League Club of the Year and Eucharia Uche of the Super Falcons was selected the National Coach of the Year.
Tana Aiyejina of PUNCH newspapers won the Football Writer of the Year with Godwin Enakhena winning the Football Presenter award.
