Nigeria has been given the hosting rights to stage the 2011 World Body Building Championship following an outstanding performance of Prince Kennedy Nwamkpa in 2010 World Championship in Cayman Islands IFPA Universal Muscle Classics.

To this end, Prince Nwamkpa who was conferred as the current champion after the eventual winner failed a dope test, has called on the Nigeria Sports Commission, State Governments, Corporate bodies and Sports Philanthropists to help sponsor the tourney which would attract fifty two body builders across the world.

While speaking, Prince Nwamkpa, said staging the championship in the country would promote power lifting and body building among Nigerian youths.

He stressed that the gesture would also redeem the image of Nigeria in the sport as well as attracting the attention of the international governing body in providing adequate body building equipment and support to aid its growth in the country.

According to him, his intension was to establish powerlifting and body building in the secondary schools, tertiary institutions and some states, adding that his ambition is to retain the title for a couple of years as well as breeding champions who would take after him as world champion.

Sportsweight.blogspot.com reports that in 20007, Prince Nwamkpa captained the Nigerian team to the All African Powerlifting Championships staged in Johannesburg, South Africa where the Nigerian contingent finished fourth in Africa as the tourney exposed him to international arena and he realized he could go places and record positive achievements.

On return from South Africa, he intensified his training in preparation for bigger competitions and in 2008; he became the first West African to compete in the Wolrd Powerlifting Championships held in Palm Springs California United States.

In 2010, Prince Nwamkpa, made another very power outing when he competed for the second time in Cayman Islands IFPA Universal Muscle Classics and once again, came home with two silver medals in both Men’s and Master’s Classic.

Basking in the glory, he returned to Nigeria only to be informed via email two weeks later that the doping test results conducted during the championships had been released and it was discovered that the body builder who took the Gold medals in both classes failed the dope test as he was found guilty of using banned substances, hence he was stripped of the medals and banned for seven years.

Consequently, Prince Nwamkpa was declared the winner and thus the World Body Building and Powerlifting Champion 2010
