Nicolas Imhoaperamhe
of Rivers State and Peace Uko of Ondo have emerged the winner of the
100 metres race in the men's and women's categories at the 18th National
Sports Festiva tagged EKO 2012 Games.
In the Men's 100 metres race, Nicolas Imhoaperamhe of
Rivers State breasted the tape with a time of 11:57 seconds to place
Chkwuma Onyeakwu of Cross River State to the second after returning with
a personal best of 10.56 seconds just as Victor Ikhazobor of Edo came
third with a time of 10.72 seconds.
While speaking with our correspondent, Imhoaperamhe,
praised God and Governor Rotime Amechi, for supporting the Rivers State
athletes to attain greater height in sports as the gesture has motivated
him to redouble his efforts to stand out as the nation's best sprint
athlete.
The Gold medalist, said his target was to better his
performance at the next Mobil Track and Field event and also to
represent the country at series of international tournaments, adding
that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps played a vital role to
make him one of the nation's best sprinters as the NSCDC discoverd him
at the age of seventeen.
The 20 year old athlete, said his target was to two more
Gold medals in the 200 metres and 4 x 100 relay race.
In the 100 metres race,Magret Benson of Delta State came
second with a time of 11: 57 seconds while Mariam Edet Bassey of Cross
River won a Bronze medal after returniong with a time of 11:71 seconds
