The Lagos State Hockey Association has concluded plans to organise its Quarterly Inter-Clubs Hockey Championship scheduled for Thursday and  Friday this week.

The two days event will feature clubs such as Union Bank, Team Lagos  Nigerian Police Force, Temmac, Dynamic Scoopers and 90 Degree.

The competition, which will hold at the Union Bank Sports Complex, Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos is being organised to develop the game of hockey at the grassroots level.
 
Apart from this, the organisers want to use the tournament as part of preparation ahead of next year’s National Sports Festival.

Meanwhile, eight clubs have confirmed their readiness to take part in the Gymnastic Inter- Clubs Championship which holds between Friday and Saturday this week at the Indoor Hall of Lagos State Sports Council, Rowe Park, Yaba.

The participating clubs have registered for five events; vault, floor, parallel, beam and pummel horse.

The competition will be used to scout for talents and also select athletes that will represent Lagos State at the forthcoming National Youth Games scheduled for Abuja in December.

Sports Commissioner, Enitan Oshodi, will launch some gymnastic equipments purchase by the Lagos State Government for the association during the tournament. The equipments are a set of floor mats, vaulting horse, set of high bar, set of rings, set of balanced beam, set of pummel horse, set of uneven bar and chalk bowl.

Others are four pieces of spring boards, one small of trampelue, set of parallel bar, two packets of magnesium powder and foam learning beam.

The equipments were produced by the popular gymnastic equipment company from United Kingdom, Gymnova, the producer of Olympic size equipments.

The Inter-Clubs Competitions are being organised by the sports associations with funding facilitated by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development and the Office of Grassroots Sports Development in the Governor Office
