Edem, who defeated Funke Oshonaike, by four sets to two, in
the semi-final, said the feat would earn Akpan an invitation into the national
team having been neglected by the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation for years,
adding that winning the competition was an
indication that she is still relevant to Team Nigeria.
The female table tennis player, who knew that it would be very
difficult for her to win the competition because Cecilia Akpan , who is one of
the African’s best, said Akpan was the only Nigerian female players who knows
how best to play her because they are in the same club, canaan Queens and her
partner in the Women’s doubles.
According to her, losing to Akpan will not affect her
rankings in Africa and Nigeria and that the feat will encourage her to buckle
up to redeem her status in the sport, stressing that the Nigerian table tennis
team missed her service at the last All African Games.
