Fashola, who watched the final of Men’s singles at the Sir Molade Okoya Thomas sports-hall, said the state’s government was pleased with the successful hosting of the competition which according to him was to expose Nigerian players to competitive tournament where they would garner experience for playing top ranked ping pongers.
The governor, who thanked the International Table Tennis Federation,ITTF and African Table Tennis Federation,ATTF, for deeming it necessary for Nigeria to stage the event, said the office of Special Adviser to the governor on grassroot sports development and ministry of Youth, sports and social development would work together to design a lucrative programme to aid the growth of table tennis at the grassroot level.
He said the Lagos International Sports Classic, which accommodates ten sports including table tennis, would run for four months, adding that it is a brand that has the potential of attracting sponsors to promote sports.
