The African Table Tennis Federation,ATTF, says the success of the maiden edition of the International Table Tennis Federation,ITTF, approved Lagos International Table Tennis Classics encouraged the ITTF to pave the way for the GAC Group 2014 ITTF World Tour which stroke- off on Monday at the Sir Molade Okoya- Thomas Sportshall, Teslim Balogun Stadium.
Its President, Khaled El Salhy, while praising Nigeria's media practitioners for adding values to the sport and a move which placed Nigeria third in the world in the area of reporting, said the gesture would encourage the international body to further approve subsequent competitions to be staged by African countries.
El Sahly who claimed that the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation,NTTF, through its President, Wahid Enitan Oshodi, has been working tirelessly in bringing the world to Nigeria, said this year's edition would serve as a qualification for World Table Tennis championship in October, adding that African table tennis players have been to live up to expectations.
He said the contnental body had been promoting the growth of the sport especially at the junior category as Angola, Madagascar, Mauritius performed beyond expectations at the African Youth Games in Botswana, stressing that the GAC Group World Tour tagged Lagos Open is an opportunity to garner points.
