Egpytian ace table tennis player, Omar Assar, has again retained the International Table Tennis Federation,ITTF, World Tour tagged Lagos Open, after defeating Nigeria's and Africa's number one, ping ponger, Aruna Quadri in the ITTF approved competition which ended over the weekend at the Sir Molade Okoya- Thomas Sportshall, Teslim Balogun Stadium.
Assar, who defeated Silve Andre,11- 8, 11- 9, 11- 3, 11- 7, in the semi final game also outsmashed Aruna Quadri, who is currently Africa's number one ping ponger and thirty- one in the world, by four set to two, 12- 10, 13- 15, 7- 11,11- 8, 11- 8, 11- 8 to become to be crowned as the champion of the 2015 World Tour tagged Lagos Open.
Assar, who has the ITTF approved competition for third time in a row,
started the game against Quadri in the final with the zeal an
determination to retain his title as he won the first set, 12- 10, but
Quadri put up a good performance which earned him the second and third
set, 15- 13, 11- 7, which incidentally happened to be his major points
in the best of seven sets.
Assar, who lost to Quadri, in the team event in the 2015 African Table Tennis Championship in Cairo, Egypt, by four set to two and 2014 African Top 16 in Lagos, saw the final as an avenue to avenge defeat to Quadri and also to earn points in the forthcoming ITTF rankings.
