The management of the Lagos Junior League, J-League, has rewarded players and officials who made remarkable inputs to the grassroots football competition in the 2013/14 season.
The season which began on Sept 11 2013, ended on March 19 2014, with Surulere Sports City topping the U-20 annual championship chart with 46 points after 19 matches.
Bayewu Kamal, Chairman, Board of Directors of the 20-team league, in his address at the ceremony said the league was thriving.
The idea muted by a few of us in 2010 to help government take our boys off the street, propelled them into educational pursuit and to arm them economically, is making headway.
With the likes of Akinjide Idowu, Abdullahi Alfa and Dele Alampasu, products of the league are making waves at various levels of national football and the best has yet to come,'' he said.
In his speech, the Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Babtunde Fashola of Lagos State on Grassroots Sports, Prince Wale Oladunjoye, advised the players to be level-headed.
According to him, more good things are on the way for the competition since there is plan to build a befitting stadium for the league.
Plans for the facility have almost been concluded, to give room for the project kick-off,'' he said.
