Nigeria female beach volleyball team is ranked 2nd in Africa.

The female team retained her title at the Camtel International Beach Volleyball Championships in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Reacting to the ranking, the President of Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod hailed the girls for maintain their position despite the threats form other beach volleyball nations.

Nimrod said the girls will attend several Championships and also defend her gold medal at the All Africa Games in Morocco.

He said, "This year is fully packed with beach volleyball event on the Africa continent and the world. Our priority is to ensure this girls (include the male team) participate in them.

"We shall also defend the gold medal we won at the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo. The 2019 All Africa Games in Morocco looks tough buy I am optimistic of great performance".

Nimrod revealed that all machineries are been put in place in order for the teams to begin training in earnest ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

"Asides the All Africa Games, our dream is for Nigeria to be one of Africa representative at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. We hope to achieve this through early preparations and support from individuals and the private sector", he added.

FIVB:Nigeria To Participate In World Under 19 Championship

The Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) has approved the qualification of Nigeria U19 Boy's National Team to the World Championship in Tunisia next year.

FIVB Vice President, Dr. Amr Elwani confirmed it in a letter addressed to the President, Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod on Thursday. 

He felicitated with Nigeria over her qualification at the 2018 African Youth Games that was held in Algiers, Algeria last July. 

It read, "On behalf of African Volleyball Family, we have great pleasure to inform you that FIVB has approved the qualification of your U19 Boy's National Team to the FIVB 2019 U19 Boy's World Volleyball Championship that will be held in Tunisia next year".

"This follows the team's participation in the 2018 African Youth Games that was held in Algiers, Algeria from 19 to 23 July 2018 and in which the team emerged in position one.

"Kindly accept our sincere congratulations for the team's qualification and well wishes in their preparations to represent Africa in the 2019 World Championship", it added.

President NVBF, Engineer Musa Nimrod said, "We promise to make Africa proud at the World Championship in Tunisia. The federation will support the players and ensure they are camped early in order to understand themselves better".

Yakmut To Vie For Nigeria Volleyball Federation President.

Former Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Alhassan Yakmut has indicated interest in vying for the post of President, Nigeria Volleyball Federation, NVBF.

 Yakmut became eligible to contest for the position in the NVBF after winning the Nigeria Association for Physical, Health Education, Recreation, Sport and Dance (NAPHER–SD) election.

The Bronze Medal at the African Volleyball Clubs’ Championship (Cairo 1987) will be aiming to restore the fortune of volleyball, following the comatose state experienced in the sport in the last one decade.

In April 2015, Yakmut was appointed Director General, National Sports Commission by then President Goodluck Jonathan, after for the former Director General, Gbenga Elegbeleye, was removed.

Under Yakmut’s tenure as Director General of the National Sports Commission, Nigerian sports made great progress, finishing second at the 2015 African Games in Congo Brazzaville.

Four years earlier in Maputo, Team Nigeria could only place third behind South Africa and Egypt at the end of the 10th All Africa Games.

The election comes up on Tuesday, 13th June, 2017.

Volleyball Kits Worth 7 Million Naira To Be Distributed To Over 150 Pupils In Lagos State.

Over one hundred and fifty pupils from fifty Primary and Secondary Schools in Lagos State are participating in A - Three - Week Volleyball League at the Volleyball Courts of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.

The programme, which is tagged Junior Volleyball Developmental Programme, Lagos, Nigeria, is an initiative of former chief coach of Lagos State Volleyball Association, Suraj Olajide Onatuga.

The programme is being supported by a United States based volleyball coach, Ibrahim Subair and Lagos State Sports Commission, LSSC.


While speaking with sports journalists, Onatuga, said kits worth of seven million naira was made available by one of the players whom he nurtured to stardom, Ibrahim Subair, with the help of Samaritan's Feet, A Non- Governmental Organisation, based in the Unite States of America would be distributed to the pupils shortlisted for the programme.


The coach, who started playing volleyball in Nineteen Seventy- Two, said over sixty pupils had been given quality volleyball kits in the first phase of  the programme while another set of pupils would also benefit from the exercise which would end in the next two weeks.


He explained that his passion for the game of vollyeball which had helped him to produce world class volleyball players, spurred him to delve into volleyball developmental porgramme as he believed that the programme would elevate the status of Nigeria among the Volleyball playing nations in Africa.

Onatuga, said the concept of building Nigeria's future volleyball stars which started in Twenty- Thirteen, blossomed with the support of one the players whom he nurtured to stardom, Ibrahim Subair, who through Samaritan's Feet, A Non- Governmental Organisation, based in the United States of America.


Onatuga, who was in the United States of America for a couple of years through the assistance of Subair, said his stay in the United States of America further motivated him to delve into the programme since he was exposed to modern tchniques of teaching the game.

The veteran Volleyball player, explained that the participating pupils whose ages ranges from seven to sixteen, would converge on their training centers immediately after the exercise, adding that the kits would motivate many youths to join the programme.

While thanking the management team of Lagos State Sports Commission,LSSC, for creating an enabling environment for the suucess of this year's edition, said the commission's support had drastically lessen the burden attached to the programme.
