NBSA Seeks International Support.

Ahead of twenty- sixteen, the Nigeria Baseball and Softball Association, NBSA, has resolved to re-strategise its activities in order to improve the standard of the sport in Nigeria.


The association, which held its Executive meeting recently in Ilorin, Kwara State,said that NBSA would no longer depend on support within the country to sustain its developmental programmes.

Its President, Victor Fingesi, acknowledged that attarcting coprporate bodies to partner with the association to organise competitions was a major challenge, thus, the association needed to reckon with countries that are actively involved in baseball and softball.

He noted that Japan had been providing both technical and moral support to Ghana Baseball and Softball Association, adding that NBSA would delve into similar programme to improve the fiortune of the game in Nigeria.

The wife of the Kwara State Deputy Governor and the vice-president softball, Felicia Kisira, has charged NBSA members to remain dedicated to the objective of the association.

NBSA Invite 35 Players To Camp Ahead Of World Junior Softball Championship.

The Nigeria Baseball and Softball Association (NBSA) have released the names of 35 players expected to arrive in camp on Monday,15th June, 2015, ahead of the forthcoming 11th World Junior Softball Championship scheduled to hold in Oklahoma, United States.

The NBSA’s Secretary, Kehinde Laniyan said that the players would commence a 40-day programme in Port Harcourt and other locations in the country ahead of the competition.

Laniyan disclosed that the invited players were selected from tryouts that were held in Ibadan and Port Harcourt in May.

``The camp is for the purpose of preparing our players ahead of the upcoming championship and we are already putting everything in place to ensure a good outing for our team.

``The invited players have already gone through tryouts which is the first thing we do before inviting players to camp.

``The 40-day time frame is to enable our technical officials work thoroughly, while feeding and accommodation for players and technical officials will be adequately provided,’’ he said.

He added that 20 players would be eventually selected based on merit to represent the country at the championship.

The scribe, however, appealed to corporate organisations and philanthropists to support the team’s preparations for the event.

Nigeria is in pool A alongside Ecuador, China, Great Britain and Japan the defending champion.

Nigeria is the only Africa representative among the 18 countries that will feature in the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) sanctioned event holding from Aug. 9 to Aug. 15.

Nigeria To Represent Africa In World Softball Junior Championship

The Nigeria Softball team has been pitch alongside China, Ecuador, Great Britain and Japan in Pool A of the forthcoming 11th World Softball Junior Championship.

The championship is scheduled to hold from Aug. 9 to Aug. 15 in Oklahoma, U.S.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) draws on revealed that the 18 countries that will participate at the event were grouped into five pools.

The championship will be staged at the newly-renovated ASA Hall of Fame Complex in the Oklahoma state capital.

According to WBSA, the 18 teams will open the event with a group round robin.

Nigeria is the only Africa representative at the event.

Lagos Hosts Major League Trials

Nigeria Baseball and Softball Federation in conjunction with Lagos Baseball and Softball Association have concluded all arrangement to organise three days programme for major league trial.

It was gathered that the programme will hold from 3-5 October at CMS Grammar School, Bariga. The first two days, according to the organisers, will be for coaching clinic for schools’ Game Masters, coaches and interested individuals.

The trials proper will start on the last day which is Sunday.

“We are expecting about 120 athletes from other states who are coming for the trials in Lagos. A  total of five players and three coaches from Nigeria will be selected to represent country in a tournament in South Africa in December which will serve a trial for the world championship,’ said the Chairperson of Lagos Baseball and Softball Association, Mrs. Antonia Onuorah
