Lagos State Suspends Closed Camping Activities

 

The intensive and highly structured Closed Camping activities put in place by the Lagos State Sports Commission for Team Lagos Athletes in readiness for the just postponed 20th National Sports Festival tagged "EDO 2020" was put to an end today, Wednesday, 10th February, 2021.


It will be recalled that theLagos State Sports Commission Management commenced Closed Camping activities for Team Lagos Athletes to represent the Center of Excellence  at  the Anglican House Bariga, one of the best Hostels in Lagos, on  Saturday 6th to Wednesday 10th February 2021.  


However, due to the announcement of the postponement of the National Sports Festival by the 
Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development till April 8 - 22, 2021, the Lagos State Sports Commission closed the activities at the Closed Camp after training rigorously in the Camp for five days.


While in Camp, Team Lagos Athletes and coaches  disclosed that they were in high spirits in preparation for the National Sports Festival in Edo State and are always very proud to represent Lagos State.


Lagos Handball Male Player, Yayah Owolabi  stated that he is very happy to represent Lagos State, adding that, as a Professional Sportsman, someone must be ready to take up the task anytime being called upon. 


" My main target at the National Sports Festival is definitely, nothing but Gold medals ".


The Head Coach, Badminton, Maria Omoneyin, stated that  Training has always been the priority of the Coaching crew and the Players despite the postponements of the Sports Festival.


Speaking during visitation to the Camp, the Executive Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Sola Aiyepeku expressed optimism that Team Lagos will win100 gold medals at the Games. 


" We know some of our advantages and we have enough Athletes full of experience to take up the task ". Said Aiyepeku 


Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor on Sports, Anthony Adeboye, disclosed that Lagos is always prepared anytime and the athletes are responding excellently well. 


He added that Lagos State parades seasoned Sports Administrators at the helm of affairs who engage young talented athletes and believe in the young generation.

Lagos State Sports Commission, LSSC, To Organise training Programme For Public Servants

Following the success of the 14th Head of Service, H.O.S Games at the Agege stadium, the Lagos state sports commission, LSSC, is planning to organize a comprehensive training programmes for the Lagos state Public Servants.

Its chairman, Shola Aiyepeku, who was at the final of the H.O.S Games, said he had discussed with the commissioner for Youth and Social development, Segun Dawodu, on the need to establish a sustainable training programmes which would keep the public servants fit and perform excellently on their duties.

Aiyepeku, who noticed that most of the players who featured in the finals of male and female football events were not fit because they did not create room to exercise regularly.

The LSSC boss, said working with the commission's for Executive chairman, Deji Tinubu, would propel him to elevate the status of sports in the state as innovative ideas would be introduced to widen the horizons of the state's athletes.

Aiyepeku, who appreciated Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu's passion for sports development, said his vision and commitment for sports excellence, tallied with the commission's Director General, Toyin Gafar Bolowotan and honorable Segun Dawodu.

Lagos State Set To Inaugurate Boards Of 40 Sports Associations.

The Boards of 40 Sports Associations in Lagos State will be formally inaugurated on Monday 3rd  December, 2018 at 10am.

The Inauguration which will take place at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere will be done by Dr. Kweku Adedayo Tandoh, Executive Chairman Lagos State Sports Commission.

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode had recently approved the reconstitution of the Boards of the Sports Associations, excluding the Lagos State Football Association, for a four year term.

The appointment of the Chairmen and Members of the Sports Associations was based on the appointees' passionate interest in Sports and past contributions to Sports development  in Lagos State.

 

The Associations whose Boards will be inaugurated are Athletics, Badminton, Baseball, Boxing, Cricket, Cycling, Chess and Darts.

Other are Fives, Football, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Karate, Kick-boxing, Kung fu, Para Soccer, Para Sports, Tennis, Rugby, Rowing and yachting, Scrabble and Shooting. 

Also included are Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tug of war, Weightlifting, Wrestling,  Volleyball, Golf, Deaf Sports, Traditional Sports, Triathlon, Archery and Sports Medicine.
